When you work in promotional apparel, you’re always on the lookout for what’s doing well in retail apparel trends. For 2018, we have a good idea of what retail trends continue to dominate, and which trends are beginning to emerge.
Athleisure
According to Jane Hali & Associates LLC, the wellness market is continuing to be a huge power player for retail apparel trends. Brands like Lululemom, Nike, Urban Outfitters and Target are taking advantage of consumer demand for health and fitness products.
“Wellness continues to be of major interest to consumers,” Hali told WWD. “Brands/Retailers are jumping on this category in any way they can. Many companies have reported activewear and sneakers (athletic footwear) to be two of their top performing classifications. [And] athletic brands have been focusing on growing their women’s business.”
Denim
Shoppers continue to base their wardrobes around denim for 2018. Gap Inc., American Eagle Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch are all seeing success in their denim sales. Shoppers are gravitating toward light-washed denim, slashed knees, raw hems, slim legs and wider silhouettes.
Outerwear
The outerwear category has been seeing success, not just for functionality, but with fashion as well. Hali said outerwear is now becoming a statement piece, with Lululemon’s outwear category performing well for the retailer.
For promotional apparel suppliers and distributors, this is all good news. Continue to peddle your athleisure and outerwear, and maybe even consider throwing in a denim jacket here and there. Brands to watch for inspiration include Lululemon and Nike.
