Scottish Soccer Team Sells Shirt With Wrong Team’s Name

Soccer fans across the pond are passionate. That’s not to say that we in the U.S. don’t care about the beautiful game, but anyone who’s watched even a few minutes of European soccer (or, more accurately, football) knows things can get hectic in the stands (or in the streets).

So, you can imagine what a fan of the Glasgow-based club Rangers F.C. thought when he showed up to the team’s store to buy a jersey, only to find that the manufacturer had printed another club’s name on it.

Twitter user Craig Baigrie noticed that a shirt, despite having the Rangers logo embroidered on the front, featured the name of Portsmouth F.C. on the inside of the collar. That’s a pretty big mistake, considering Portsmouth (which plays in the third tier of English soccer) isn’t even in the Scottish league.

What’s more, the store is run by Sports Direct, which is owned by former Rangers shareholder Mike Ashley.

“I went in on Sunday afternoon to buy the new away top,” Baigrie told The Sun. “I don’t think you can really blame Rangers for it, it is Sports Direct that make everything, so to blame Rangers would be harsh.”

If you look close, you’ll notice the shirt behind the one in question is printed correctly, with the RFC logo printed throughout the collar. It seems one shirt simply got passed the quality control professionals on the way to the store.

There’s a good lesson in this: No matter how big your company is, mistakes happen. And someone will always notice. Thankfully, it seems the Rangers fans were good sports about the whole thing.
