Coming close but ultimately short of being elected mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, Brandon Mackay, MAS and CEO/president of supplier SnugZ USA, recently discussed with Promo Marketing some of his feelings on the race, as well as his political future.
Promo Marketing: Do you intend to run again, either for mayor or a different office?
Brandon MacKay: Right now I’m on the fence about what I would like to do in the future. I do believe that I could offer great insight to my local community and help them navigate through some high-level issues regarding finance, economic development and facilitating a positive culture between city staff and elected officials.
PM: If you do plan on running again, what year would that be? Would that be the next available term following this one?
BM: If I did decide to run again it would be in 2016 for a City Council position and then a possible Mayor run again in 2018.
PM: The vote count looks to have been extremely close. Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?
BM: Yes, absolutely I would have started to campaign earlier and get my team together sooner. I needed to put more effort into building relationships with the local political establishment and look to receive their help and endorsement.
PM: Do you have any advice you’d give to other promotional products professionals and/or company owners considering a run for office?
BM: Yes, politics is an interesting sport. You have to go into it and make a game plan and stick to it. Looking back, I really believe that my campaign was honorable and 100 percent above board and I feel good about that. The country is in desperate need of good, hard-working, knowledgeable women and men willing to serve, and if you have the desire to serve I highly recommend that you throw your hat into the ring.
