An employee at a promotional products supplier was arrested for assaulting his supervisor after being told he was to be laid off from his position. According to the Daily Mirror, Darren Baldwin, a temporary factory worker for SPS in Blackpool, England, allegedly punched his manager in the face and threatened him with a knife when he learned he was being let go from his job packing stress balls.
Prosecutors said that Baldwin, 44, attacked manager Philip Dilworth upon learning he was losing his job. After punching his boss, Baldwin took out two knives and threatened him further, saying “I will cut you up,” according to Dilworth’s attorneys. Fellow factory workers came to the manager’s aid and Baldwin left the premises and was later arrested.
In an interview, Baldwin initially denied the claims but admitted to affray and assault on the day of the trial last week. He claimed that the knives were tools he used in the warehouse. Baldwin was released on bail on the condition he stay away from the SPS warehouse.
