Superior Uniform Group Announces Rebrand

Superior Uniform Group Inc., a $267 million branding solutions provider nearing its 100th year in business, announced recently that it will be changing its name to Superior Group of Companies (SGC). The decision was reached Thursday, May 3, as shareholders voted to approve the name change at the company’s annual meeting that afternoon.

In a press release, the company said that it had decided to make the change in order to better reflect its identity as a parent company of branding divisions, exemplified by diverse offerings that have arisen following recent acquisitions of similar companies.

Such acquisitions include BAMKO, Tangerine Promotions and Public Identity. BAMKO, a branded merchandise distributor, was listed on Promo Marketing’s Top 50 Distributors of 2017 list at No. 32, while Tangerine Promotions, a distributor of promotional products and signage, came in at No. 27.

Michael Benstock, CEO of Superior Group of Companies, explained the philosophy behind the business’s decision to rebrand.

“Our new name recognizes our rich history as ‘Superior’ and includes how diverse we’ve become as a family of companies all working toward brand enhancement,” he said. “This name change and rebrand allows us to better identify our company and represents all of our branding solutions under the Superior Group of Companies name.”

SGC was founded in 1920 as a medical uniform provider, and has since grown into one of the nation’s largest designers, manufacturers and distributors of branded uniforms. This latest change follows on a 2008 move to open a call center division, as well as SGC’s 2009 launch of its own promotional products company.

Judging by its most recent acquisition—SGC purchased CID Resources Inc., a Coppell, Texas-based branded medical uniform supplier for $88.4 million—the brand-building service provider is more than capable of living up to its new name.
