Looks like Target might be going the way of Forever 21 with its latest T-shirt. When will retailers learn that, thanks to the internet, you can’t get away with stealing another designer’s apparel?
Whether or not this was a convenient accident, Yahoo Style pointed out that Target’s latest health-inspired T-shirt closely resembles designer Charli Cohen’s “Dressed to Kale” T-shirt.
The brand’s Twitter posted this tweet of a side-by-side comparison:
Hey @Target! Funny story – we launched the Dressed to Kale tee in 2015. You must feel so big plagiarising a young designer. #RT pic.twitter.com/ztLq2w2Rnc

Charli Cohen spoke to Yahoo Style about the damage Target’s copying has already done for her brand:
“I was searching for someone who had tweeted about our ‘Dressed to Kale’ tee and saw a load of people had posted these copies, having purchased them from Target,” she said. “The ‘Dressed to Kale’ tee is a signature design of ours and synonymous with the Charli Cohen brand since we launched this design in 2014. Target has already damaged the SEO and hashtags (#dressedtokale) we’ve built around the slogan over three years, as well as devaluing our original design by flooding the market with their cheap copy.”
Cohen also said she wants Target to pull the tee from stores immediately.
Target responded to Cohen in a tweet:
We take your concerns seriously. Please send us an email to [email protected] with more information. Thanks.
