Typos: not man’s best friend. Just ask Florida’s Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, where on Wednesday a deputy spotted an error on one of the office’s new rugs. In the center of the rug’s big yellow sheriff’s emblem read the words “In Dog We Trust.”
WFTS Tampa Bay has the story:
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office told Action News the error was made by the rug manufacturer, American Floor Mats. The company is currently working on giving the sheriff’s office a replacement, according to a spokesperson.
The rug cost $500.
As far as decorating errors go, this one is more amusing/whimsical than it is embarrassing. (Hey, it could be worse.) The misprinted text is small—so small that it took weeks for anyone to notice the typo. And public reaction has been mostly good-humored. BBC News noted that several users have taken to the sheriff’s office Facebook page offering to buy the rugs.
Some Facebook users suggested auctioning the rugs for charity. “Maybe the Sheriff’s Office could sell or auction the rugs off with the proceeds going to the Pinellas Humane Society or some rescue organizations,” said one. “I would like to have one and wouldn’t mind making a charitable donation to do so!”
But in the end, the lesson is the same: Always, always proofread. Otherwise you may end up in the doghouse.
