As we head toward the first weekend in October, we can say that Oxford Dictionaries does not need to wait until December to crown its Word of the Year. We would bet every penny to our names that “impeachment” is going to win in a landslide, owing to its embedded presence in the General Election cycle. The concept of impeachment is proving beneficial to the T-shirt business, with both sides of the political aisle getting in on the fervor by launching their own impeachment-related tees.
State branches of the GOP are selling one that mocks claims that President Trump should experience that embarrassment. And on the Dem side, Rashida Tlaib, the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 13th congressional district, is selling another that makes clear her stance on the commander-in-chief’s time in the White House.
Ever since the Democratic Party began to accumulate potential challengers to Trump for next year’s election, Promo Marketing has maximized the chance to write about various promotional goods from both the challenger’s side and the incumbent’s point of view. It is no secret that the disdain between the president and his opponents is never going to simmer. And it’s a given that both parties will continue to look for whatever product-centric edge they can acquire to encourage their bases.
For the GOP, that means selling an “Impeach This” T-shirt that contains a plethora of red indicating the districts Trump won in 2016. Newsweek notes that the WinRed funding platform does not reveal how much a supporter needs to pledge to receive the T-shirt, but it does explain that 30 state Republican parties are working together to sell the shirts, with some amount of the proceeds going to Trump’s reelection campaign.

Tlaib, a member of The Squad, has resonated as a vocal adversary of the President since she joined Congress in January. That month, she made quite clear that his detractors would seek to impeach him, using a very NSFW title for Trump. The acronym form of the insult, though, receives its due through the $29 T-shirt that Tlaib is hoping will draw even more attention to actions that she and her party peers are saying warrant his impeachment.
Lean in with me to hold this lawless President accountable. Together, we will fight back and protect our democracy.

Anyone who thinks either side is going to tone down its rhetoric ahead of the ultimate clash between the two come November 2020 need only wait a few more days, we are going to predict, for another promotional product to reach the masses. Impeachment has become the ultimate buzzword, and is receiving its time in the commerce spotlight through the T-shirts. One wonders what the next big merch-inspiring moment will be. Will the threat of impeachment lead to more garments or other goods, or will a new micro-moment or long-brewing matter soon do the parties’ financial bidding?
