Firefighters battled a blaze that originated inside a Detroit promotional product manufacturer yesterday.
Palmer Promotional Products, whose offices are based in St. Clair Shores, Mich., suffered damage to its secondary location in east Detroit yesterday.
The Detroit Fire Department received the call regarding the fire at 9 a.m., Lt. Theresa Halsell said. No injuries were reported, but she was unsure if anyone was inside the building when the fire broke out.
“They did fight the fire through the night,” Halsell said. “The last company [extinguished] the fire at 7 a.m. [today].”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, she said.
HazMat crews responded to the two-alarm fire as a precautionary measure, but left at 1 p.m. yesterday, according to an MLive.com article. The fire was under control by 2:45 p.m.
Firefighters cited in the article that the structure’s top two floors were filled with chemicals. Sources, according to the article, said at least two employees escaped unharmed.
Palmer Promotional Products makes bar and restaurant products, such as signs, menu boards, banners and bottle displays. The woman who answered that phone at Palmer’s offices—located 11 miles northeast of the site of the fire—indicated no one was in the office. A message left with company president Jim Palmer was not returned by press time.
