USPS Worker Charged with Misappropriating $55,000 in Money Orders and Cash

The hits just keep on coming for the U.S. Postal Service. If the mounting losses and looming job cuts weren’t enough, the organization is now battling bad press from a litany of workers gone wild.

This time, it’s Latrobe, Pa. post office employee Jessica L. Croyle., who has been indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with misappropriation of postal funds. Croyle allegedly converted more than $55,000 in postal money orders and cash for personal use, and faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine if found guilty, according to The Pennsylvania Record.

It’s another in a string of incidents involving USPS employees. Last week, a series of reports by the Postal Service inspector general revealed that postal workers used government-issued, taxpayer-funded travel cards for gambling, bowling and other personal expenses.

Before that, a USPS delivery driver allegedly hurled a package containing a hard drive against a homeowner’s garage door. A video of the incident, captured by a home surveillance camera, quickly went viral, prompting a flood of negativity toward the Postal Service on Twitter and other social media sites.
