Weezer’s Latest Merch Is … a Weezer-Branded Roomba Vacuum

Weezer wants to clean your floor. Well, actually, the band wants to let a Roomba clean your floor. To be even more specific, they want a branded Roomba that looks like a Weezer CD to clean your floor. That way, you have even more time to listen to the band’s new music.

Introducing: the Wroomba (the W is silent).

The band teamed up with Roomba manufacturer iRobot to make Weezer-branded Roomba, coinciding with the band’s new single “OK Human.”

Get it? Robots? Humans? Working together?

Weezer is one of those bands where it’s tough to tell if they’re being serious. Singer/guitarist/band leader Rivers Cuomo has that deadpan style, so when we first saw this we thought it was a joke. But, after visiting wroomba.com as instructed, we can confirm that it’s real, and that it’s a contest. Five winners will get an iRobot Roomba i7 vacuum outfitted with a custom Weezer skin.

Band and artist merchandise is getting more and more creative. It should be, considering it’s part of a creative industry. But, after decades of mostly T-shirts, it’s fun to see artists working with their marketing people to go a little more out-there for their merchandise.

And Weezer is definitely driving some of that shift, as seen in their exclusive Amazon partnership and hyper awareness of merchandising opportunities. Remember, this is the band that brought you Black Metal Hub, possibly the most extensive artist merchandise store ever created, in 2019.

The best promotional products are the ones that accomplish a task or fulfill a need for the end-user. We can’t think of many tasks more universal than cleaning the floor.

It’s also a great conversation starter.

“Oh, wow. You got a Roomba!”

“Yep.”

“Wait does that say ‘Weezer’ on it?”

“Yep.”

“Awesome.”

“Yep.”
