As the story goes, the main character is asked by Sam-I-Am, “Do you like green eggs and ham?”
He replies, “I do not like them, Sam-I-Am. I do not like green eggs and ham.”
What’s the business lesson for each of us in this story?
The lesson is that we all have our comfort zone, and that we need to continuously work to reach outside our comfort zone to grow our success.
Some parts of business are easy and comfortable. Sitting behind our desk. Calling on the same customers. Repeating the same tasks.
But do you like getting out in the field and meeting new prospects and recruits? Do you like reaching out to current customers and selling them new products and services? Do you like delegating those comfortable tasks?
My guess is that your easy answer is, you “do not like them.”
Truth is, no one likes getting out of their comfort zone. No one likes trying new activities.
Reality is that your maximum success is on the other side of your comfort zone.
Let me encourage you today to get comfortable with trying the uncomfortable. Meet new prospects and recruits. Sell new products and services. Delegate increasing amounts of your clerical tasks.
Who knows? You may just learn to like green eggs and ham.
