Post-Memorial Day Memorandum

Unlike many of my Philadelphia counterparts, I did not go to the beach this weekend. I chose to stay home, soak up the sun on my driveway and celebrate my grandfather’s 90th birthday in 90-degree heat. When I took a break from basking in the glorious summer sun, I decided to peruse some of my favorite style blogs to see what was happening in the world of fashion now that summer has officially started. Below, I’ve listed some of the best fashion articles, blogs and links related to the promotional products industry. Imprinted goodness guaranteed.

The article traces the popularity of the shirts back to the DIY surf and skate wear in the 1980s to the burgeoning hip-hop style and culture of today. Interviews with various T-shirt company reps like graphic artist and illustrator Shepard Fairey (the man who created the now infamous Obama Hope posters) give credence to this conversation about the continual rise of imprinted T-shirts.

Sneakers are some of the best means of self and brand expression. You can be hippie-chic in these hip sneaks from Karina Petroni, or imprint your own design on these from Hammacher Schlemmer.

Have you ever wondered what people in Singapore wear on a breezy May day? Or the most popular way to wear denim in Rio de Janeiro? Well, wonder no more because Elle has compiled an extensive slideshow of global fashion. With this info, maybe you can expand your apparel client base across continents.

Singer Lily Allen adds to the 70s revival in fashion with her new clothing line Lucy in Disguise. The line, designed by Allen and her sister, is based on their love of vintage and includes summer 2011 basics like a maxi dress, but also more look-at-me styles like a mini sailor suit. The incorporation of sparkles may be reflected in your fall orders.
