There are a few things going on in the world of preppiness. Firstly, The Kentucky Derby is quickly approaching (it is on May 6 and 7). Secondly, Vineyard Vines recently introduced Kentucky Derby themed styles for watchers to adorn whether they are at the derby or at home. Finally and unrelated to racing horses, Lilly Pulitzer is announcing the winner of their new sorority print today, an honor all chapters (save for the three that already have them) are clamoring to earn.
Preppy styles are made for the promotional products industry. Monograms and logos are the order of the day at country clubs, derbies and beyond. While the fashion of the derby is usually reserved to ostentatious hats, like this one modeled and designed by Betsey Johnson, Vineyard Vines expanded the chicness of derby-goers with scarves, ties and dresses. To keep up with these bronco-brandings, you should look into other race promotions. Hats, stuffed horses, khaki pants, picnic baskets and blankets are a few ideas. Steed prints galore. On the Greek side of things, sororities competed to win a print designed by pink- and green-heavy designer Lilly Pulitzer. Sorority sisters from around the country logged onto Facebook, liked the Lilly Pulitzer page and voted for their favorite chapter. The competition shows the benefit of incorporating social media into your promotion as thousands of sorority members logged on to vote. The results will be announced today at 3 p.m. Be prepared to hear the collective tears of the 20 plus sororities that did not win. They will be fine though, because you can console them with the imprinted apparel you sell.
