New York Magazine’s The Cut blog created a slideshow of the newest retail trend: baroque. The 18th century artistic style has a made a comeback through brands like Stella McCartney, Versace and ever-present trends-setter Marc Jacobs. The art history nerd in me is thrilled because baroque-style painter Caravaggio is one of my favorite artists and Versailles (a heavily baroque piece of architecture) is my dream interior décor. The ornate pastel pieces shown by fashion brands are not only easily transferred to promotional looks, they already exist in the industry.
Mugs
The best way to enjoy a latte is in a French baroque-inspired mug. The 12.5 oz. Canaveral Pastel Mug from Cooper & Clement is not only pastel, but it also features an ornate flower design.
Cookies
It is widely debated whether or not Marie Antoinette actually said the words “Let them eat cake!” It is a fact that I often say, “Let them eat cookies!” especially if those cookies are gold and silver, like these ones from Fresh Beginnings Inc.
Chandeliers
The name says it all for this Tiffany & Leonard Co. chandelier: Royalty’s Chandelier. The king-worthy iron-wrought candleholder is the picture of promotional baroque.
Earrings
These Fleur De Lys earrings are not only baroque; they are a uniquely beautiful gift that an end-user will remember.
Clutches
Combine 18th century charm with 20th century convenience with the Wrap-A-Round Clutch in Casablanca Sky Blue from Elite Creations/Power Equipment. Pockets and powder blue? King Louis XIV would be proud.
