The Style of Dad

Since becoming a dad about 14 months ago, I’ve learned a lot of things–both good and bad. For example, rawhide bones are not the same thing as teething rings. Vomit cleans up nicely off leather. And perhaps most importantly, my innate lack of fashion sense no longer matters. The reality is when I’m pushing a stroller, dolling out “puffs” and chasing my son around in the park, no one cares what I’m wearing. Here are my top five “dad” fashions:

1.Keene sandals (with or without socks): They are literally the best pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. They’re light, comfortable and best of all made of 100 percent recycled materials. If I’m not at work and there’s not snow on the ground, I’m opting for the sandal.

2.The short-sleeve button up: Though I’ve been told plaid is out, I fancy it. Also a nice bright orange or blue will work for me. But the best part of the short-sleeve button up is the front shirt pocket for iPhone or sunglasses.

3.Cargo shorts: I’ve got three pair that rotate–brown, earthy green and tan.

4.Baseball hat (preferable old and worn): My current favorite I got last summer when I visited my college. Normally it would still be in good shape, but the baby thinks it’s a toy (sometimes a chew toy), so it’s gotten worn in rather quickly.

5.Any T-shirt with the sleeves cut off: Whether it be painting, raking or cutting the grass, sleeves just hinder the process. Less sleeve=more movement.

Fashion plate I’m not, but the good news for you is that the Promo Marketing summer styles story is coming out in April. Check it out for all the style tips I missed because I’m sticking with the style of dad for the foreseeable future.
