Scrunchies Are ‘Hair Clouds’ Now, and They’re Cool and Expensive

You know scrunchies? Of course you do. Everyone knows scrunchies, whether or not they actually have hair plentiful enough to necessitate scrunchies. You know hair clouds? No? I bet you do, but you don’t know it.

Because it turns out, hair clouds are just a clever rebranding of “scrunchies.”

What you also might not know about scrunchies (err, hair clouds) is that they’re totally cool again. Thanks to Danish designer Line Sander Johansen, who also coined the delightful new term “hair clouds,” they’re joining us in the 21st Century.

Johansen’s label, Comfort Objects, has rolled out a line of these “hair clouds” made from recycled Hermés scarves, according to The Independent.

“The hair cloud, as I named it, instead of the mixed feelings I had about the scrunch concept, is based on the idea of them looking like silk clouds around the hair when tied a bit effortless in a bundle,” Johansen told WWD.

Retailing for about $200, this design is bringing scrunchies—I mean hair clouds—back to high-end fashion and style.

As many retail trends trickle down into the promotional products industry, distributors should keep an eye out for these items that are definitely not scrunchies to appear.
