Pop-up shops are huge right now. Case in point? Even the Academy Awards had a pop-up shop this year. However, there’s one sector now getting in on the pop-up action that we wouldn’t have expected, with medical apparel company FIGS opening a new pop-up shop in Los Angeles from now through Dec. 31.
“Medical professionals have never had the opportunity to shop for their uniforms like they would regular clothes, despite wearing scrubs more frequently than any other article of clothing they own,” said FIGS co-CEO Heather Hasson. “We wanted our pop-up shop to feel lively and playful, but also modern. With this space, we’re letting our consumer know that they deserve better. They deserve FIGS.”
The 1,800 sq. ft. space features video paneling and an embroidery workshop. On display is FIGS’ full line of medical scrubs, compression socks, tote bags, loungewear, lab coats and outerwear. There is also an art installation created in part for Instagram.
FIGS says it is hoping to take advantage of the brand’s recent momentum.
“We’re experiencing tremendous growth and it’s super important to maintain the integrity of our brand,” said Jenny Seyfried, the company’s vice president. “Through experiences like the pop-up and billboard campaigns, we’re letting our customers know that we’re not slowing down when it comes to reinventing the medical apparel industry, and we are going to continue to show up for our community every day.”
The company will also use the space to host speaker series, embroidery workshops and “night shift” hours for medical staffers who work during the day.
It will be interesting to see how this move pays off for the company. Up until this point, medical scrubs haven’t exactly gotten the trendy retail treatment, so this is definitely a first for the industry. If it does well, it’s definitely a marker that medical employees are interested in uniform offerings that are more fashion-forward or, at least, accessible.
