Convertible Solutions, Sedalia, Mo., has developed a new double weight postcard stock to enable the printing of 24 point postcards on HP Indigo, Kodak Nexpress, Xerox iGen and other digital presses. The Double Thick Impact Cards are designed for printers and direct marketing companies that want to combine variable data or short run printing with the tactile impact of an extremely thick postcard.
“Direct mail is an essential part of any effective multichannel marketing campaign,” explained David Williams, director of business development at Convertible Solutions. “A well designed mail campaign can work on it’s own, or in conjunction with email marketing, personalized URLs, mobile marketing and QR codes to dramatically increase response rates.”
“Postcards are one of the simplest and most effective forms of direct mail,” said George Fry, Convertible Solutions’ director. “Thicker postcards stand out and have higher response rates than thinner cards, but producing a personalized postcard on a thick stock has been difficult. The digital presses required for short run or variable data printing did not work well with such heavy stock.”
To solve this printing challenge, Convertible Solutions designed the Double Thick Impact Cards to run through standard digital presses. Each press sheet is 12 points thick with cohesives on the back and a score down the center. The graphics for both the front and back of the postcard are printed on the front of the press sheet. When folded at the score, the front and back of the postcard seal together to create an impressive 24 pt card. The sheet is designed to print easily in most digital presses and can be folded with a typical bindery folder.
The Double Thick Redemption Impact Card is die cut with a tear-off redemption card and each sheet produces four cards at 4.25 x 5.5 inches each. A second version, without the redemption card, can be trimmed into four cards at 4.25 x 5.5 inches, two cards at 5.75 x 8 inches or one very impressive card at 8.5 x 11 inches.
After printing, the sheets can be UV coated to add gloss and protection, or a thin layer of lamination can be applied to make the card even thicker.
“Double Thick Impact Cards get noticed,” said Convertible Solution’s CEO, Aric Snyder. “At twice the weight of a typical ‘thick’ postcard, they catch the eye and the fingers of a prospect to generate higher response rates and better sales results.”
