Gameboy’s 30th Anniversary Spurs Merchandise Sales

Kids these days are spoiled by video games that look like real life. They’re so used to astonishing graphics that video games are even making retro-style games as a novelty. Isn’t that fun?

Those of us who can remember the days of accepting that a few grayish blobs are a man, a monster, a dirt bike or whatever else can appreciate the gift of 4K video games appropriately, but look back on prehistoric video game systems fondly.

So, for those who remember busting out that big, clunky original Gameboy and popping in a nondescript gray cartridge to play something resembling baseball or Mario, there’s a ton of Gameboy-inspired merchandise for the handheld console’s 30th anniversary.

A quick Amazon search yielded results like a Gameboy lunch box, a Gameboy teether for gamers who are definitely not old enough to have actually ever played on one, and more.

If it were up to us, we’d probably go for this Gameboy coffee mug (complete with the home screen for “Super Marioland”), or this adjustable “Dad Hat,” which really nails hat minimalism mixed with retro nostalgia that’s big right now.

Chances are you definitely have a means of playing video games with better graphics, but sometimes you just can’t beat the classics.
