Each shoe style features vibrant color schemes reminiscent of the Crayola packaging, and some even have things like Velcro straps that look like crayons. What stands out the most, though, is that Vans is opening things up to customization on the Comfy Cush Old Skool style, where customers can make their own versions of the Crayola-themed sneakers.

“Crayola encourages everyone to ‘step up’ and color outside the lines,” Warren Schorr, vice president of business development and global licensing for Crayola, said in a press release. “We are excited to reunite with Vans to offer a collection with a fresh take on creativity.”
Beyond the sneakers, the Vans collaboration features apparel like hoodies and T-shirts for both kids and adults. Each piece will feature hand-drawn illustrations, furthering the theme of illustration that Crayola is known for.
It’s a good example of two brands with well known imagery working together to bring out the best in each. Vans has its classic logo that goes along side all of its shoes, which happens to look a bit like the wavy lines Crayola features on crayons and markers, so it’s really a match made in Branding Heaven.
The customization aspect also brings people in who might otherwise not have shopped with Vans, and is another great example of how personalization can be used in a branded apparel campaign.
