A Woman’s Car Caught Fire, and Her Stanley Tumbler Survived (And Even Kept Ice Cool)

Some products just feel indestructible. Remember those old Nokia phones that you could practically throw at a brick wall without it getting so much as a scratch?

There’s plenty of hype around heavy-duty drinkware like YETI tumblers or Stanley thermoses. Heck, Starbucks customers practically camped out to get co-branded Stanley drinkware.

And now we’re starting to understand it, as one Stanley user posted a video of the aftermath of an automobile fire, where her Stanley thermos rested peacefully in the scorched cupholder, apparently still with some ice inside.

Now, this was on TikTok, so there’s always the possibility of movie magic, but if it’s legitimate, that’s an insane advertisement for Stanley.

“Everybody’s so concerned about if the Stanley spills, but what about if it melts,” TikTok user @danimarielettering asked in her video.

Now TikTok is even more abuzz about Stanley knowing that they might be fireproof (please don’t test this theory). Stanley seems to be pretty grateful for the free publicity, and even a little empathetic about the larger issue at play here: This woman’s car being destroyed.

In a video response on TikTok, Stanley global president Terence Reilly said:

“We’ve all seen your video. Wow, what an order, and we’re all really glad you’re safe. I’ve seen a lot of comments that we should send you some Stanleys. Well, we’re going to send you some Stanleys, but there’s one more thing—and we’ve never done this before, and we’ll probably never do it again—but we’d love to replace your vehicle. Yeah, all of us at Stanley, we’d really like to replace your vehicle.”

Sites like Business Insider reached out to both Stanley and the TikTok poster to confirm that this is all true, but hasn’t heard back yet. But let’s just operate under the assumption that it is. Stanley got pretty much unprecedented free advertising that its products can withstand even the harshest conditions.
