When you take the subway, feeling special is probably the last thing on your mind. Let’s face it, morning commutes are not known for their glamour.
But for a New Jersey man, his commute became a spectacle when he was named OMNY’s billionth customer of 2023. And for unknowingly achieving this feat, he received a new T-shirt, an eyeglass cleaning cloth imprinted with a subway map, and a $100 OMNY card.
MTA officials declared the billionth ride a sign of the subway system’s continuing recovery from the decline of ridership as a result of the pandemic.
In an article from the New York Daily Times, NYC Transit President Rich Davey said, “It’s a milestone that we reached in late December last year, it’s almost six weeks earlier today,” he said. “Customers are coming back.”
With customers coming back, MTA took the extra step to make a customer feel special, and you can too … with promo. It can be in the form of a kit where you throw together a sort of smorgasbord of products that people can use in their everyday lives.
While a shirt, gift card, and an eyeglass cleaning cloth don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand, if you were to receive all three at once would you really be that mad about it?
Not to mention, the cleaning cloth serves as yet another printable surface that you may have not ever considered branding before.
This is all to say that even though you might not know exactly who your billionth customer will be, this is the time of year when going the extra mile to make people feel special will go a very long way.
