Vegas weddings have their own, shall we say, vibe. It’s one of the few places on earth where getting married by an Elvis impersonator is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.
What about being married by Chester Cheeto? The city that also turned its pyramid-shaped hotel into a giant Dorito is taking its snack game to another level by hosting a “Cheetos Chapel” for branded weddings.
The whole thing is part of a Frito-Lay takeover at the New York-New York hotel on the strip that started during the Super Bowl weekend. In addition to chances to win other Frito Lay-branded products or take in other immersive displays, couples can legitimately get married in a “Chester-approved” ceremony officiated by the hologram mascot. As Chester hasn’t been legally ordained by the state of Nevada, the weddings aren’t legally binding, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. But that’s kind of part of the fun, isn’t it? It makes for some low-risk fun for couples visiting.
The display includes an entryway decorated with the orange and black cheetah prints (with heart-shaped spots mixed in), and big signage hanging on the hotel’s Brooklyn Bridge replica. There’s also a neon light reminiscent of the ones you’d find just up the strip. Once inside, couples get Cheetos-themed outfits to wear, too.
It’s just one of the latest in a string of great immersive displays, and not only uses the branding identity of Cheetos, but touches on one of the cornerstones of Vegas’ reputation as the place to elope. It gets people participating in something memorable and very photo-ready, too.
Other brands have made wedding-themed products in the past, too. So this isn’t entirely out of the blue.
Chick-fil-A has been responding to wedding invites with branded gift packs, and Dunkin’ and Whataburger have both rolled out wedding-themed collections.
