R.S. Owens, Chicago, announced the completion of the annual Phil Simms All Iron Award. Simms, one of CBS television’s lead analysts for NFL coverage, traditionally announced the winners of the “Phil Simms All Iron Team” on Thanksgiving Day since 1999.
The award honors top NFL players and coaches and was inspired by Simms’ obsession with ironing, which started as a young child. “When Mom did the wash, she just threw it out there for all eight kids,” Simms said. “If you wanted to look good, you had to iron.”
The award is in the shape of an old-fashioned cast iron with an elaborate metal handle and fabricated metal face. Each of the 19 trophy parts are fabricated by hand and tested throughout the manufacturing process to ensure a tight fit within an exacting tolerance.
The front face and large, round center medallion are etched metal with a textured surface that is face-sheared to give a “diamond-cut” appearance. Before final assembly, each part is electroplated in silver and given a final buffing.
