A fire at Pop Tops Sportswear‘s Easton, Mass., facility resulted in more than $100,000 in damage. According to Wicked Local, the fire alarm tripped at the facility at around 6:52 a.m. on Dec. 6.
Pop Tops Sportswear manufactures team uniforms, apparel, work wear and promotional products. Easton Fire Capt. James Walsh told Wicked Local that when fire crews arrived at the facility, the warehouse was filled with smoke.
“The toughest part was locating it because of the smoke conditions,” he told Wicked Local. “The building was full of smoke. There was zero visibility.”
Walsh said that the fire started in a room where equipment is cleaned. The damage mostly was due to smoke and fire damage, coupled with water damage from the building’s sprinkler system.
Walsh also told Wicked Local that because of the items inside, including textiles and chemicals, the fire could have been worse. He credited the facility’s safety measures and the responders for minimizing damage.
“Everything worked well,” he told Wicked Local. “The sprinkler system worked well, the alarm system went off. The guys were able to get in there quick and knock it down.”
According to the Pop Tops Sportswear Facebook account, the facility is still operational, and the company is continuing to fulfill orders.
