In the age of online streaming, it never has been easier to watch our favorite TV shows and movies. Now, thanks to streaming giant Netflix, it never has been easier to pause a show once a viewer falls asleep. Netflix released a design for socks that can detect when viewers fall asleep, and automatically pauses their shows.
According to Adweek, Netflix worked with Deeplocal, a Pittsburgh-based agency that combines technology and advertising, to create a pair of Netflix-branded socks that connects to a viewer’s Netflix account and uses an accelerometer that detects when the viewer has stopped moving for a prolonged period of time.
However, Netflix isn’t manufacturing the socks. Users need to have some knitting know-how and some prior use of a soldering iron to assemble the accelerometer. Netflix, however, has made knitting patterns available. Each pattern showcases a popular Netflix show, such as “Bloodline” and “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”
We personally don’t have any knitting experience, but this could be a next-level holiday gift from relatives who know their way around yarn and knitting needles (and a soldering iron).
