On Wednesday June 11, Norwood’s Souvenir writing instruments facility and the city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa experienced a “once in a thousand years” flood, exacting a devastating toll on the lives of all the employees in Norwood’s Souvenir facility as well as the Cedar Rapids community at large.
“On behalf of the entire Norwood family, we are now focusing our attention on our employee’s recovery efforts as well as deploying contingency plans to meet the needs of our customers. We will continue to update customers with direct phone contacts and with postings on our Web site, www.norwood.com, with the most recent information as our operations get back into service,” said company chief marketing officer, Jim Simone, CAS.
“And while we stay focused on these efforts, we’re also asking for your help in our recovery efforts.” continued Simone. “With the spirit of Souvenir’s strong commitment to our distributor customers over the past 100 years, we are now asking for your support to help rebuild the lives of those affected by this flood.”
To help with these efforts, Norwood has established a fund to help support the company’s employees and their families. Contributions can be sent to:

This year, in a recent celebration of Souvenir’s 100th anniversary, Paul Lage, MAS, president and CEO of Norwood, said, “There are not many companies that can boast a 100-year history, so you are part of a very special and select group. And in those 100 years, Souvenir has endured floods, fires and building renovations but has always stayed focused on building lasting customer relationships with quality products and excellent service. Strong customer relationships were the foundation of the company in the early years, and continue to this day to be the keystone of Souvenir’s ongoing success.”
Said Lage, “Those words continue to remain in the hearts and minds of our efforts as we focus our efforts on our employees, their families and the Cedar Rapids community. We thank you for your support and ask that you continue to watch for more recent updates on www.Norwood.com on the status of these recovery efforts as well as the status of our operations rebuild. Your generosity and concern are greatly appreciated.”
