One Dead, Five Injured in Bangladesh Dyeing Factory Fire

The Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety released a statement detailing a factory fire at Mega Dyeing Ltd in Gazipur. According to the investigation, one factory worker died and five others were injured in the fire, which occurred on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The fire originated at an acrylic yarn store on the building’s third floor and spread to upper floors through an elevator shaft. Firefighters reached the scene in the early morning and brought the fire under control.

The factory’s fire brigade initially attempted to contain the fire themselves with equipment inside the factory, but had to evacuate. Three workers were injured during this attempt.

The Accord inspected the Mega Dyeing factory for fire and electrical safety on Aug. 28, 2014, and it will assess the fire damage to perform necessary improvements as identified in the inspection.
