Citing Anvil Knitwear’s commitment to further integrate environmental and social performance into the company’s U.S. and international facilities, Anvil has been approved by the Boston-based Ceres board of directors as a Ceres company. Ceres is a leading network of investors, environmental groups and other public-interest organizations working with companies to address sustainability challenges.
Anvil Knitwear, designer, manufacturer and marketer of active wear based in New York, joined Ceres to help advance its own and Ceres’ environmental and social-responsibility goals. Anvil is one of more than 70 companies currently in the Ceres company network.
“From their eco-friendly manufacturing processes to their organic cotton T-shirts, Anvil’s commitment to improving the company’s overall sustainability will have a positive impact both for the corporation and the apparel industry,” said Mindy S. Lubber, president of Ceres. “We look forward to working with Anvil to further integrate sustainable practices into their business strategies,” she added.
Anvil launched its sustainability program with the establishment of a comprehensive environmental policy that was endorsed by both executive management and the board of directors. The company has seen a growing demand from customers for sustainable products and has continually discovered that environmentally sound business practices also are fiscally sound.
Current company initiatives include the use of environmentally sustainable methods in manufacturing processes, recycling programs, waste diversion and wastewater treatment processes, energy conservation programs, and employee education.
“Anvil Knitwear is a company with a long-standing commitment to the environment,” said Anthony Corsano, CEO of Anvil. “We are excited to be recognized for our focus on environmentally sustainable growth. Working with Ceres will help us in our goal of continually expanding our initiatives in all aspects of the corporation.”
Companies that join Ceres must make continuous strides in improving their sustainability performance and reporting practices by engaging with investors, environmental groups and other stakeholders.
