Union, Illinois-based Bag Makers is pleased to announce its sponsorship of Take Charge Indy, a 3-year-old running in The Kentucky Derby this Saturday, May 5. The sponsorship will be in the form of an ad placement on the uniform of jockey Calvin Borel, rider of 3 of the past 5 Kentucky Derby winners.
The sponsorship fee is provided in the form of a charitable donation to The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF), a 501(c)(3) public charity that assists permanently-disabled jockeys with income and medical financial assistance.
“We’re very excited to be able to make this contribution to PDJF,” says Maribeth Sandford, CEO of Bag Makers. “Many of these jockeys were injured at an early age and face a lifetime of living with a disability,” she adds.
The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides financial assistance to some 60 former jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries. Since its founding in 2006, the fund has disbursed over $3 million to permanently disabled jockeys, most of whom have sustained paralysis or brain injuries.
