The hottest, most fashionable accessory right now might be a bag of Lay’s potato chips.
If you don’t want grease all over your fingers, though, you’re in luck. This isn’t really a bag of Lay’s chips. It’s a Balenciaga bag meant to look like a bag of Lay’s chips.
The bag debuted as part of Balenciaga’s Summer 2023 “Mud Show” presentation when it was carried by models walking the show, and is an official collaboration between Balenciaga and Frito-Lay.

You might have guessed that the price tag is nothing like the few bucks for a bag of chips. The Balenciaga x Lays’ bag is rumored to be priced at $1,800, according to Hype Beast.
The Balenciaga version is leather printed with the usual Lay’s imagery (including different flavors and bag colors), but with “Balenciaga” written underneath, making it a true co-branding endeavor. It also has a full metallic silver lining (just like a chip bag) and zip closure at the top.

A few years ago, this might have seen like an outrageous and out-of-nowhere idea. But combining high fashion and promotional products, especially in the fast-food sector, is increasingly common.
For Balenciaga, it’s a way to tack its name onto a ubiquitous logo and packaging, but to elevate it by using higher end materials and attaching its own name to it. It’s an ironic combination of expensive accessories and something known for being a little add-on to a meal deal.
