Ben Franklin Honor Society Inducts The Flesh Co. Marketing Director

Eleven printing visionaries who have made lasting contributions to advancing the industry were honored last week.

The Ben Franklin Honor Society of Printing Industries of America, Sewickley, Pa., inducted various standouts, including Roger Buck, marketing director for The Flesh Co., St. Louis, at its annual induction ceremony that was held in Chicago.

Irv Michlin, founder of IMCOM Inc., Murrieta, Calif, and Ivars Sarkans, founder of Sarkans and Associates, Los Angeles, nominated Buck. Michlin introduced Buck at the ceremony.

“This is a real honor for me,” Buck, who also sits on the advisory board for the Department of Graphics and Imaging Technologies at Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kan., said. “I started in a weekly newspaper shop in Girard, Kan. and worked in many of the business-form plants in that area.”

Buck has served the document-supply portion of the industry for more than 25 years, with leadership roles in Print Services Distributors Association and Print Education and Research Foundation.

He began his career while still attending high school, working for a hot type newspaper where his father was a pressman. Then he became a prepress in the business forms part of the industry in 1971 and moved on to manage a letterpress department. He had various marketing and sales roles in the 1980s, and later became a business development manager. He has several patents and has taught numerous classes on document solutions.

He formerly owned a marketing consulting firm with a focus in helping digital printers grow their VDP businesses, and wrote the monthly column, “Marketing Matters” for the Southeast Kansas Business Journal. Now he oversees marketing at Flesh, a print service company that supplies a variety of forms, labels and promotional printing applications.
