Boston 2024 Leftover Branded Items Given to Staff, Youth

The U.S. Olympic Committee and Boston 2024 announced their decision last month to end Boston’s campaign to host the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but what about all the promotional products already created for the bid?

The Boston Globe reports that T-shirts, sunglasses and rubber bracelets are among the promotional products boasting Boston 2024 Olympics logo that can still be found in boxes around the organization’s offices. While there isn’t much remaining, officials have opted to give staff first dibs to the remaining promotional products.

“Our staff and interns get the opportunity to take home the limited branded items we have available as mementos of this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Erin Murphy, Boston 2024’s chief operating officer, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, some items will be headed to organizations in need of supplies. For example, office supplies will go to school supply drives, and a ping pong table will be donated to a youth sports organization.

A new U.S. city has not been announced officially yet, but Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington D.C., were rumored as possible contenders for the bid, according to AP.
