Anyone who has lost their luggage during a trip knows that it’s not fun. There’s that sinking feeling of showing up to the luggage carousel and waiting in vain for a bag that’s hundreds of miles away.
Previously, Delta Airlines worked to alleviate this issue by introducing luggage tags that included Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) abilities. Now, they’re taking it a step further by integrating the technology into an app.
According to The Verge, travelers who have the Delta airlines app can track their lost luggage from their phones.
“From the moment our customers drop off their bag, we want them to know we’re looking out for it every step of the way and working to take the stress out of flying,” Bill Lentsch, senior vice president of airline operations for Delta, told The Verge in a statement.
So far, the RFID tracking is available in 84 airports in the U.S.
Obviously, promotional product distributors are aware that luggage tags can make for practical promotional items, but this technological advancement could be a new spin on the standard luggage tag.
