Delta’s New Sign Language Name Tags Are an Awesome (and Easy) Idea for Uniforms

There’s been a lot of negative news concerning airline uniforms lately, so we’re excited to cover something positive here for a change. Delta Air Lines has announced that new flight crew uniforms will indicate what languages the crew members speak, as well as whether or not they know sign language.

Ed Bastian, Delta’s CEO, made the announcement on his personal LinkedIn page.

“Our mission is to connect the world, which starts with making travel easier for all people,” the announcement read. “One way we’re doing this is through sign language name bars, allowing customers to immediately identify and connect with Delta Air Lines team members who share the same signed language.”

It’s a small change, but a good and logical one. The comments and immediate reactions have been overwhelmingly supportive, and we think this is a great way to make air travel more inclusive. Until now, the name badge has been an overlooked opportunity for more branding potential, and Delta is at the forefront of changing this for the better.

Hopefully, more airlines and other businesses follow this example moving forward.
