About 215,000 children’s sunglasses were recalled this week, due to excessive levels of lead in the surface paint.
The various children’s sunglasses styles recalled included Marvel’s Spider-Man, Sears and Kmart’s brand, and Disney’s “Cars,” “Doc McStuffins,” “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced yesterday. A total of 20 styles of the affected children’s sunglasses were sold at Bon Ton, CVS, Kmart, Rite-Aid, Walgreens and other retailers nationwide from December 2013 through March 2014 for $7 to $13.
Lead in paint and other surface coating for children’s products must not contain a concentration greater than 90 parts per million, or 0.009 percent, according to the CPSC.
The sunglasses were manufactured in China. No injuries have been reported.
The affected children’s sunglasses should be immediately returned to FGX International, the importer based in Smithfield, R.I.
