Remember when Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham tried to take part in the “My Cause, My Cleats” campaign by making his cleats represent the fictional “Yeezy Foundation?” Well, the NFL didn’t like it, and fined Green-Beckham $6,076 for wearing unapproved cleats.
Apparently, according to ESPN, that’s the going rate for wearing unapproved cleats, as the Houston Texans’ DeAndre hopkins received the exact same penalty during the first week of the season.
The My Cause, My Cleats movement allows NFL players to get away with wearing cleats that otherwise would not fit in with the league’s strict uniform policies to benefit the charities of their choice.
You can see a full gallery of players’ (approved) custom cleats at NFL.com. (Our favorites are Vernon Davis’ cleats for the Vernon Davis Foundation for the Arts and Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliot’s SPCA of Texas cleats.)
