Edwards Garment, Kalamazoo, Mich., today announced several changes to its leadership.
Gary Schultz, president and CEO, announced his decision to transition to retirement. He will maintain his leadership role as CEO for the organization, and will continue to advise the new president, Jose Gomez, through this transition. Schultz’s more than 20 years growing Edwards into a top supplier and creating innovative new product offerings has given the organization the opportunity to expand within the uniform apparel markets.
Throughout his career at Edwards, Schultz has been instrumental in expanding product categories in culinary, suiting, hospitality and security, along with navigating acquisitions of Bishop Custom Apparel and HMB Andrew Rohan. He will remain actively involved as CEO throughout the transition.
“With Jose as president, I will be able to devote my time to key strategy initiatives to grow all aspects of the business, including our commitment to sustainable solutions,” Schultz said.
With Schultz’s retirement transition, Gomez assumed the leadership role of president for Edwards Garment beginning July 1, 2021. Gomez, formerly vice president of operations, moves into the role of president and will assume responsibility for all aspects of the business, while maintaining responsibility for supply chain, operations and sourcing.
Gomez has been with Edwards for more than 10 years, and brought more than 12 years of consulting experience with Kurt Salmon Associates. He has been instrumental in fundamentally transforming the company’s supply chain by expanding the global network and implementing world-class software while responding to changes in the industry.
“The board selected Jose to lead the organization based on his vast knowledge of the apparel industry, and their expressed belief in the value of insider knowledge and experience,” Schultz said. “Jose’s wide-ranging experiences in the apparel industry [provide] him with the expertise that will serve Edwards today and into the future while his tenure assures the special culture the company has will continue.”
