Since the Golden State Warriors won this year’s NBA Championship, memorabilia commemorating the win was produced en masse for Bay Area basketball fans. However, not all of the merchandise was licensed. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations found close to $500,000 in counterfeit Warriors merchandise, CBS San Francisco reported.
The ICE officials seized more than 14,000 fake T-shirts, hats, flags and decals during an investigation that took place throughout the NBA playoffs.
This wasn’t the first time a Bay Area sports team was associated with counterfeit items. When the San Francisco Giants won the 2012 World Series, investigators found counterfeit goods, such as tote bags, T-shirts, hats, pennants and more.
The ICE posted a picture on Twitter yesterday, showing some of the counterfeit items the agency seized.
