Corporate Development Associates, a merger-and-acquisition firm for the printing industry, announced last week that it aided in General Data Company’s acquisitions of both International Label Manufacturing and National Custom Labels, two Indiana-based label and print manufacturers.
General Data Company (GDC), based in Cincinnati, OH, manufactures print products like labels and packaging, and also specializes in print-industry services like coating, data management, equipment services, tracking and barcode identification. After being founded in 1981 in Pittsburgh, PA, the company moved in 1993 to Cincinnati.
The two acquired companies are both headquartered in and around Terra Haute, IN. International Label Manufacturing was started in 1985 by Cecelia Myers, whose children Laurie Taylor and Lisa Gonzales remain at the company as owners; they will stay on with GDC after the acquisition.
National Custom Labels was previously known as National Printing Converters after its founding in 1963 by Robert Buckley and Gerald Silver. In the 1980s, Buckley bought out Silver’s stake in the company, and his son, Brian, has been in charge of the company since 1981. Brian will retire from the printing industry following the GDC acquisition.
GDC has more than 300 employees, making it a large player in the label manufacturing side of the print industry. It joins other big-name players like Ennis (asi/52493) in the trend of actively acquiring others.
