Here Is a Nice Branded Merchandise Story Involving Two Rival NFL Teams and a Star QB’s Favorite Charity

After Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson left a playoff game against the Buffalo Bills due to injury last month, Bills fans showed their support for Jackson by donating $500,000 to his favorite charity, Blessings in a Backpack.

To show its gratitude, the Louisville, Ky., charity released a line of merchandise celebrating the “Bills Mafia.”

The charity is selling T-shirts, sweatshirts and coffee mugs that say “Who will feed the kids this weekend? Bills Mafia will,” a play off of existing merchandise that says “Who will feed the kids this weekend? I will.”

The products are available now through Feb. 22, and all proceeds will go toward Blessings in a Backpack. WGRZ reported that, so far, 200 items have been sold, eclipsing the original 50 item goal and translating to more than $2,000 in donations for Blessings in a Backpack.

It’s was nice to see sports fans put aside their on-field rivalry in support of a charitable organization. And it’s even nicer to see the organization saying “thank you” (while raising some extra funds) through branded merchandise. We can expect to see more of that, too, as nonprofits embrace online stores in larger numbers.
