Nearly three months have passed since LeBron James delighted fans with displays of his basketball prowess, but the superstar has remained in the public eye, especially through a collaboration with rapper Travis Scott. No, the three-time NBA champion is not trading knocking down jumpers for busting rhymes. Instead, he and Scott designed T-shirts that went to members of the high school class of 2020, many of whom had their hopes for customary graduations dashed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mid-May was an especially rough time for significant chunks of the nation’s impending high school graduates, as prom season went by minus any celebrations and the realization that they would not be saying goodbye to one another together must have intensified. Relying on the “we’re all in this together” theme that many have used throughout this health crisis, the T-shirts from James and Scott were available from May 15-18, with the $40 apparel selections benefiting charities.
The T-shirts have a semi-psychedelic vibe to them and give nods to James’ Uninterrupted logo and Scott’s Cactus Jack brand identifier. The thought behind the items, especially the affiliated charitable efforts, provides the type of news that we could use more of these days. With so many students having to deal with the absence of the typical gatherings that mark their rite of passage into adulthood, every little bit helps as a reminder that someone is taking pride in their work.
Scott already was no stranger to the garment world, especially T-shirts with a connection to high schoolers. Now that the calendar has turned to June, we wonder what other products acknowledging graduates’ classroom and athletic prowess will hit the market.
