Lately, there’s been a lot of talk surrounding Donald Trump’s overseas manufacturing. Hillary Clinton has released multiple political ads targeting Trump’s merchandise production. And now, The Washington Post combed through public data to sort the products Trump outsources.
Using online retail store data and public data of shipments at U.S. ports from 2007 through 2016, The Washington Post created a list of where Trump manufactures his products.
Here are some of the findings:
- The Donald J. Trump Collection shirts were made in China, Bangladesh, Honduras and Vietnam. There were also sports coats made in India.
- Trump suits feature a “Made in Mexico” labels.
- Trump eyeglasses were made in China.
- “Success by Trump” cologne is manufactured in the U.S.
- “Make America Great Again” hats were made at a California factory.
- Trump Home merchandise was imported from China, but Trump bedding comforters are made in the U.S.
- Trump Hotel pens were made in China or Taiwan. Trump hotel shampoo, body wash and moisturizers were made in China.
The rest of the findings, available on The Washington Post, show that Trump outsourced products to at least seven other countries not included in the above list.
So, while Clinton’s ad is correct in saying that “Trump’s products have been made in 12 other countries,” there are, at least, a few items that were manufactured in the U.S. However, the list seems to negate Trump’s anti-outsourcing campaign.
