The U.S. Marine Corps uniform board is considering changes to the marine uniform, including the addition of (optional) umbrellas for male Marines and silver earrings in dress uniform for female Marines.
According to Marine Times, female Marines were always permitted to carry or use small black umbrellas while in dress or service uniforms, and male Marines have requested to do the same.
The Marine Corps Uniform Board is considering a recommendation that all Marines be allowed to carry and use small, black umbrellas, which only female Marines are permitted to do now https://t.co/4CE4i412z6

Also, the Marines are considering allowing non-commissioned officers to wear a waist plate with the Marine emblem on their belt.
“Recruits ‘earn’ the title ‘Marine’ upon completion of the Crucible, when the Marine Corps emblem is placed in their hand,” a survey response said. “Why then do they have to wait until they are promoted to corporal to wear the emblem on their belt?”
This update to the Marine Corps uniform policy makes a lot of sense from a practical standpoint. It also serves as a reminder there are plenty of promotional products to pitch as add-ons for uniform clients. Branded umbrellas, badges, lanyards and other items sold as part of a uniform program could be an easy way to augment a sale.
