Ordinarily, you wouldn’t want a promotional poster you put up to be torn down. That kind of defeats the entire purpose of using it as a means of advertising, right?
And you’d probably think that someone walking the streets tearing down movie posters would be a vandal. But, in this case, they’re just doing exactly what the advertisers want.
Marvel is encouraging Australian fans to tear down posters for “Avengers: Infinity War” in the hopes of finding free movie tickets.
On Tuesday, a Reddit user in Melbourne posted that he found tickets at a bus stop behind a poster that read “Do You Dare Remove Thanos?”

Don’t worry, it wasn’t a complete waste of posters. The user commented that the poster was easier to tear down than normal ones (does this mean he does this recreationally?) and that it left an intact poster of the movie’s heroes in its place.
According to Disney, there were 40 posters containing tickets for the movie, but two higher tiers of prizes: a pair of double passes for “money-can’t buy exclusive” advanced screenings in Sydney and Melbourne.
Look, we at Promo Marketing know the value of promotional posters as a means of advertising. If done well, they can be a long-lasting medium for brand awareness, and we do not condone ripping down any poster you find in the hopes of finding things like free movie tickets.
(That’s like how our friend’s dog found a sandwich under a car once and now tries to throw himself under every parked car in Philadelphia. It’s a bad idea. Don’t do it.)
That said, this promotion clearly gives us hope that, if we do descend to the level of petty vandalism in the streets, there might be a reward in the form of movie tickets.
And they say crime doesn’t pay.
