The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Mayborn USA, Norwood, Mass., is recalling 3.1 million Tommee Tippee Sippee spill-proof cups due to a risk of mold exposure.
According to CPSC, mold can develop on the removable valve inside the spill-proof cups when it builds up with moisture and isn’t cleaned enough. Ingestion of the mold poses a risk of gastrointestinal issues and infections for consumers with compromised immune systems.
The recall includes five types of spill-proof Tommee Tippee Sippee cups featuring a removable, one-piece white valve:
- First Sips Transitino cup
- Trainer Sippee cup
- Sippee cup (including Cute Quips)
- Sportee bottle
- Insulated Swiggle/Sippee tumblers
Only cups with the removable, white valve are included in the recall.
Mayborn USA has received more than 3,000 reports of mold in the valve, including 68 reports of children experience numerous gastrointestinal issues, such as diarrhea, vomiting and more.
The CPSC advised consumers to immediately stop using the cups and contact Mayborn to receive a free replacement.
