Just a week after Mike Trout became the first player in MLB history to win back-to-back All-Star Game MVP honors, the Los Angeles Angels announced they will unveil a life-size bobblehead of the center fielder.
Standing at Trout’s 6’2″ height, the bobblehead will sit outside Angel Stadium in the Music Garden/Trout Farm area, and be unveiled during a 5 p.m. ceremony on Friday before the Angels’ game against the Texas Rangers, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I can’t wait to see it,” Trout, who will be in attendance, said. “I think it’s pretty cool.”
No stranger to bobbleheads, Trout is the star of many regular-sized head-bobbers on MLB.com’s shop, as well as two promotional bobblehead giveaways during Angels games in 2013 and 2014. Other Trout-themed gameday promotions since 2013 have included a gnome, shirt, blanket, pint glass, poster, fish hat and kids’ hat.
As unique as the honor is for Trout, the bobblehead will not be the tallest of its sort in California sports. The Golden State Warriors unveiled a 7’7″ bobblehead of Manute Bol earlier this year, giving away 10,000 regular-sized replicas to fans, according to Sports Illustrated.
While Trout’s life-size bobblehead does not coincide with a giveaway, it will stand as a unique—and large—addition to the stadium area and a prime spot for fans to take photos.
