More Magnet Recalls: Star Networks USA Recalls Magnicubes, Settles with CPSC

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently reported that Star Networks USA has agreed to a voluntary recall of its Magnicube Sphere and Magnicube Cube products. The recall was the result of a case filed by the CPSC in 2012 over the safety of the magnets. Said the CPSC in its recall notice:

“From 2009 to the present, CPSC staff has received numerous incident reports of ingestions involving small, high-powered magnets, including many that required surgery. This recall is intended to protect children and teenagers from the deadly risk of injury that can occur when more than one magnet is ingested.

CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop use of all Magnicube Spheres and Magnicube Cubes and check for magnets that have become separated from the set.”

The CPSC has closed several other cases against small, rare-earth magnetic toys this year, most notably settling a personal lawsuit with Craig Zucker, former CEO of Buckyballs.

The full recall note from the CPSC is available on its website here.
