Nebraska Can Finally Sell ‘It’s Not for Everyone’ Merchandise

Nebraska isn’t for everyone, if the state’s tourism commission is being honest with you.

Thanks to a new advertising campaign, that message is loud and clear. That slogan actually became official a little while back, but hit a speed bump in the legislative process to get it approved.

Thanks to a necessary unanimous decision by the Nebraska State Legislature, the state’s tourism commission was free to finally print promotional products like T-shirts and drinkware with the new slogan.

This slogan change might not convince everyone from around the country to drop everything and buy one-way tickets to Omaha, but there’s a lot to be said for this. It’s concise and clever. It’s easy to put on merchandise. And, if they’re actually being honest, it’s true.

Not all state mottos are honest. Pennsylvania’s is “Virtue, liberty and independence.” It should be “Potholes, sandwich rivalries and sub-par baseball.”

New York’s “I love New York” slogan was a major part of New York City’s revitalization in the late 20th Century, and has become a cultural identifier that transcends its initial purpose.

Will Nebraska’s new quip make it the most popular destination in the Midwest? Probably not. But, like they said, it’s not for everyone.

And, honestly, it seems like they’re just fine with that.
